“I have officially cancelled my knee surgery! Thank you so much!”

-Beating The Odds-

I came to I GYM Fitness just wanting to get in shape. I have suffered with dislocating patellar tendons for over a decade. I have already had surgery when I was younger but with no success. My knees still ached and continued to dislocate. I have since been afraid to do much exercise and so lived a very sedentary lifestyle, which caused me to gain weight. I felt trapped by my injury. And was even more discouraged because I had to have another major surgery scheduled at the end of August to fix the problem. I couldn’t bare the thought of going through the pain of knee surgery and rehabilitation again (not mention the cost) and still turn out the same way. I knew I had to do something so I made the decision to work with a fitness trainer at I GYM Fitness. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. While exercising with Berke and being treated at the gyms Wellness Center my fear of injury slowly started to dissipate as I saw myself doing exercises I never thought I could do! Now 15 lbs lighter and counting, my knees have gotten stronger and I feel healthier than ever! And as of August 10, 2008 my knee surgery has officially been cancelled because of my improvements! Thank you so so much!

-A Story of Change and Self Acceptance-

All my life, I have struggled with my weight, often being picked on, ridiculed and laughed at. I felt worthless and I didn’t have much of self-esteem or confidence. My weight often went up and down, like a roller coaster with each diet I tried. Food had become an emotional crutch and addiction. My journey to acceptance of my body and myself was often rough. I struggled for years in a cycle of binging and purging. Being a part of the dance team in high school didn’t make it easier. After I quit the team I gained so much weight that I was 4 sizes larger by the time I graduated high school. Injury after injury throughout the years, continued to force me off my feet and gain more weight. Now by the spring of ‘05’ I was close to 300 pounds, at risk for diabetes and had high blood pressure, not to mention the pain my body was in from the injuries and weight gain.

On July 20th, 2005 my little brother who was 17, died in a freak accident. Finally I woke up. His death made me realize I had to change my life. So I tried for a while to eat right and walk every once in awhile but I wasn’t getting better. Then I realized trying to eat right wasn’t enough. I needed more help or I wasn’t going to make it either. So in the beginning of this year, I turned to a trainer I knew, for help. Berke Brown, of I Gym Fitness has not only been a trainer but a friend and often times an inspiration and reminder of what I am working for. When I started I didn’t have the greatest attitude, but Berke forced me to take a hard look at myself and realize that part of my battle was mental and I had to change my mindset. He helped train me by showing me how to train myself, and to change for the long run, to live longer and to be healthy to the best of my ability.

Now 6 months into training with Berke I have lost over 40 pounds and countless number of inches. My pants have to be held up by a belt, and I am practically swimming in my shirts. I still have a long way to go but with the help of Berke, all the amazing people at the gym that make it feel like a family, and GOD, I know my journey to find and love myself will be rough, but I continue to remember my motto, “What I want is worth fighting for. You got to want it more than you don’t”

“ I told my trainer, ‘Make me look like a Spartan by Halloween’... and he did!”

I told my friends that I would be a Spartan for Halloween last year and they literally laughed. They didn’t think I could change. After working with IGYM Fitness for two months I could already see my gut disapearing and my abs coming through. The exercises were intense. In 16 weeks I had a true six pack! Berke made sure that I wore big shirts so that no one could see the changes I was making. By Halloween time I was ripped! The look of complete suprise on my friend’s faces when I came into the party in that Spartan outfit with the perfect Spartan abs was priceless!

“This was probably the best decision I ever decided to make!”
-Overcoming Sciatica and Tendonitis-

Working out with Berke, was probably the smartest decision I ever decided to make. I had been working out on my own, and absolutely getting nowhere. Honestly, most of us, we get out of shape and we get over weight because we are not doing the right exercises. So to go into a gym by yourself and think that you’re going to be able to do it; it doesn’t work that way. You come in here and you work out with your personal trainer and you’re pushing yourself to a level you didn't even know you had. You keep going and you thought you had nothing left! You come in, you setup your own goals: where you want to be and your fitness trainer is the person who is going to help you get there. I spent 6 months wasting my own time and in 2 months here, I have already lost about 3 1/2 inches off my body, in 6 weeks I have already lost 8 pounds of pure fat! At work everyone’s starting to notice. It’s a financial commitment, but you have to think about that as an investment in your life, an investment what you want and what you want to be, an investment in your health and future.

I started with Berke over four years ago. I was in bad shape. I was suffering from Sciatica and had severe lower back pain that just would not go away no matter what I did. I also had tendonitis and was also over weight. I had just quit working with another personal trainer at the time who was horrible. While working with Berke not only did my back pain disappear and my tendons rehabilitate, I also lost 15lbs of fat in the process and now have an awesome waistline. I am more athletic than ever doing exercises the doctors said I could never do.

Nobody at my new job believes me ‘till I show them this before picture (left). They didn’t believe that at 6’0, I used to weigh 135lbs, and that when I first met with Berké I couldn’t even bench press 20lbs dumbbells.

With sincere honesty I can say that I GYM Fitness changed my life. I couldn’t begin to tell how my self image used to be. Since working with Berke, I now rep 70lbs dumbbells with ease and I now weigh 175lbs! And even more than muscle and size gain, I have also gained a positive outlook towards life and also a positive ‘in-look’ towards myself.
